Know Before You Go: NYC Tips for Business Travellers

Blog title

Making your way to the Big Apple to do some business? How excited are you right now?! Travelling for work is such a privilege when it takes you to incredible destinations like these. At TravelManor, we like to equip all our travellers with some inside info on the places they visit on their corporate journeys, so here are a few top tips for your trip to New York City:

Make Use Of the Subway

NYC is a traffic nightmare. Even if you book a lift with a shared ride provider like Uber of Lyft, you are likely to encounter some serious congestion, even after hours. The subway system may seem daunting, but if you take the time to get to grips with it before you arrive, the reward is that you’ll be able to navigate wherever you need to go with absolute ease. Start by downloading CityMapper, and learning the express VS local lines. Also, don’t be afraid to walk to your meetings if you’re close by. NYC is a city of pedestrians. Just remember to wrap up nice and warm if you’re visiting in winter - it gets cold out there!

Snag Early-Morning Meetings

Keep your dinner slots open for catching up with friends, or see if you can meet up with a like-minded LinkedIn contact to build out your global contacts. As for meetings with busy NYC executives, your best bet is to try an early-morning meeting if they plead time poverty. New Yorkers either get up early to eat or to sweat, so suggest grabbing a bagel near their office, or ask if they’d like to go for a run (if that’s your thing). You are far more likely to get in the door if you go for the less popular dawn-patrol meeting than vying for the coveted 10am slot.

Seek Out Shared Spaces (and do something NY-ish)

If you don’t have the option of tacking on a leisure component to your journey, we highly recommend seeking out shared work spaces throughout the course of your stay. This is a great way to immerse yourself in the ‘vibe’ of New York. There are co-working spaces all over the city, and it definitely beats doing your admin in a quiet hotel room. Also, try to do at least one NY-ish thing. Visit Central Park, go see a show, catch a Yankees game, or visit the MOMA. You owe it to yourself to tick at least one bucket-list item while you’re there.

Following these guidelines will pave the way for a rewarding business trip to NYC.
